Deic, the Danish NREN, has selcted Ericsson and ECI Telecom as providers for a new, national optical network footprint for research and education. The new DWDM optical network platform, based on the ECI Apollo 9600 series, allow both 100Gbps coherent and 10Gbps optical transmission, with a total of 88 channels on a single fibre.
Roskilde University is moving all its video productions into the Kaltura media management system from Danish NREN DeIC. This is expected to lead to increased security, stability, and control of copyright issues. DeIC delivers Kaltura as a service hosted by NORDUnet. The combination of DeIC and NORDUnet was a deciding factor when the Danish university chose Kaltura. Consultant Michael Pedersen from the Academic IT function at Roskilde University explains:
Danish Center for Scientific Computing (DCSC) and the Danish research network Forskningsnettet has merged into Danish e?infrastructure Cooperation (DeIC). This has been done in order to strengthen the Danish effort in the e?science area, and thereby ensuring Danish research prominence internationally.
