Danish NREN DeIC Selects New DWDM Platform

Deic, the Danish NREN, has selcted Ericsson and ECI Telecom as providers for a new, national optical network footprint for research and education. The new DWDM optical network platform, based on the ECI Apollo 9600 series, allow both 100Gbps coherent and 10Gbps optical transmission, with a total of 88 channels on a single fibre.

DeIC to procure optical transmission equipment

DeIC expects to spend between DKK 18 million and 30 million on optical transmission equipment for Forskningsnettet, the Danish National Research and Education Network.

DeIC has issued a request for tender via TED (Tenders Electronic Daily). The process has three steps:

First, a number of potential vendors are selected. DeIC expects to select between five and eight vendors.

Next, the vendors submit their proposals. Finally, DeIC selects a vendor.

Roskilde University consolidates video with Kaltura

Roskilde University is moving all its video productions into the Kaltura media management system from Danish NREN DeIC. This is expected to lead to increased security, stability, and control of copyright issues. DeIC delivers Kaltura as a service hosted by NORDUnet. Merger of data storage, processing power and network connections to strengthen Danish research

Danish Center for Scientific Computing (DCSC) and the Danish research network Forskningsnettet has merged into Danish e?infrastructure Cooperation (DeIC). This has been done in order to strengthen the Danish effort in the e?science area, and thereby ensuring Danish research prominence internationally.
