Thank you, Erik Huizer!

Thank you, Erik Huizer!

For the past seven years, Erik Huizer has served as CEO of the GÉANT Association, steering the organization through a transformative period. He joined GÉANT at a time when the European collaboration of National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) faced significant challenges. With a focus on trust-building and fostering a shared sense of purpose, Erik successfully navigated these hurdles, uniting stakeholders and positioning GÉANT as a resilient and forward-looking organization.

Under his value-based leadership, GÉANT has grown significantly to meet the increasing demands put on both the organization itself and the broader community it serves, and has remained a trusted partner. His efforts have created a culture of confidence and clear direction, enabling GÉANT to respond to the needs of its members and stakeholders.

During Erik’s tenure, NORDUnet and PSNC have formed a close partnership with GÉANT  for a joint, tight-knit team for delivering the highly successful TNC conferenecs. We have also worked to ensure a much tighter integration of the NORDUnet and GÉANT networks, doing joint planning and achieving resource sharing, better networks and cost reductions for both the European networks and connectivity to North America and Asia. Engaging in these and many other efforts, with a GÉANT guided by Erik’s open and collaborative approach creating value for all parties, has been a pleasure and a privilege.

At today’s 34th GÉANT Association General Assembly, Erik Huizer formally hands over the reins to Lise Fuhr, new CEO of GÉANT, who is the one to carry forward the organization’s mission with a strong foundation to build upon. Erik leaves behind a legacy of transformation and strengthened collaboration. His tenure has resulted in a healthier, more robust GÉANT, well-equipped to serve the European NRENs and their growing demands better than ever before.

NORDUnet and the Nordic NRENs extend our heartfelt gratitude to Erik Huizer for his exceptional leadership, insight, and unwavering commitment to the mission and business of the NRENs, and not the least for being a wonderful partner and a good friend of NORDUnet for many years.

His vision and dedication have left an undeniable mark on GÉANT and the NREN community, ensuring that the organization continues to thrive and support research and education across Europe and beyond.
