Alberto Pérez Gómez named Director of RedIRIS

Alberto Pérez Gómez has been appointed new director of the Spanish research and education network RedIRIS.

Dr. Alberto Pérez has been Deputy Director of RedIRIS since 2004, dealing with issues of economic management, personnel, portfolio of services, and projects, including his participation in the deployment of RedIRIS-NOVA, and representation of RedIRIS in international forums such as European R&E network GÉANT Association.  Alberto Pérez is a well-know and respected figure in European R&E networking, having among other things been on the board of TERENA and the GÉANT Association, and been instrumental in developing the GÉANT Management of Service Portfolios special interest group. 

Prior to joining RedIRIS, Alberto Pérez worked from 1999 to 2002 on the Telecommunications Market Commission, and from 1994 to 1999 as a professor of Constitutional and Community Law at the University of Alcalá, where he graduated. Alberto made his doctoral thesis on regulation of communications, published two books and numerous articles on ICT sector policies, advised European institutions and governments in the framework of his collaboration with the European Audiovisual Observatory and the University of Oxford, and has been speaker in multiple courses and conferences of the sector.

Alberto Pérez is a long-time collaborator for NORDUnet and the Nordic NRENs.  We welcome Aberto in his new role, and look forward to years of future collaboration with RedIRIS.
