Lars Fischer, Strategy & Policy Officer at NORDUnet, has been elected for the Board of GÉANT, the European R&E network association.
At NORDUnet, Lars Fischer’s responsibilities include Nordic and European partnerships, and he sees his membership of the GÉANT Board of Directors as a natural addition:
“The European research and education e-infrastructure landscape is undergoing dramatic changes. GÉANT is well positioned to support the national research and education networks in navigating the challenges ahead.”
New regional developments include the European Commission initiatives EOSC (European Open Science Cloud), EuroHPC (European High-Power Computing), and European Data Gateways.
“Successful outcomes in research and education increasingly require end-to-end support for the research data lifecycle and comprehensive workflows, especially when it comes to European Research Infrastructures. The GÉANT community is key to the success of these initiatives,” says Lars Fischer, continuing:
“As a community, we must come together and facilitate joint initiatives big and small. My perspective is European and focused on pragmatic action for the evolution of GÉANT.”
Other newly elected GÉANT Board members are Andreas Dudler, SWITCH (Switzerland), Eric Durieux, RENATER (France), Janos Mohacsi, NIFI, and Paul Feldman (independent). Andreas Dudler will be chairman of the Board.
