NORDUnet welcomes three new African NRENs to the GREN family

Three African NRENs have recently connected to the Global R&E Network (GREN), joining the global collaboration of national research and education networks, serving researchers and educators with world-class connectivity and services all around the globe.

On 1 July 2021, during a webinar organized by the West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN), the connections of the NRENs of Bénin (RBER), Burkina Faso (FasoREN), and Côte d’Ivoire (RITER) to the WACREN backbone were inaugurated.

These connections have been made possible by the dedicated efforts of the local NRENs, the WACREN regional network, and support from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), through the AfricaConnect Projects.

NORDUnet peers directly with WACREN at the GÉANT Open R&E exchange point in London, enabling the best possible connectivity between the three new NRENs and the research and education in the Nordic countries.

NORDUnet congratulates WACREN on the milestone, and we congratulate RBER, FasoREN, and RITER on becoming part of the Global R&E Network collaboration through WACREN.
