Presentation of EOSC EU NODE for the stakeholders

Today, was the first official launch of EOSC EU NODE, a reference node for EOSC provided by the European Commission

The presentation was held for European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) and Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) and EOSC Association.
The launch event was organised in a hybrid mode and focused on a technical demonstration of the EOSC EU Node, provided by the contractors at first hand, who are also responsible for the operations, maintenance and support of the services.

🌟 The official launch and opening for public use is scheduled for theEOSC Symposium later this month, marking a significant milestone in making EOSC a reality!

NORDUnet is proud to play a crucial role alongside other Nordic NRENs (Sikt, Sunet) Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center / Poznańskie Centrum Superkomputerowo-Sieciowe (PCSS), CESNET, z.s.p.o, GRNET – Greek Research & Technology Network, GÉANT, ownCloud and Safespring in this effort, which lays the groundwork for a new era of EOSC.

This procurement provided an important opportunity for the NREN community to showcase their ability to deliver beyond traditional network services. The EOSC EU NODE builds on lessons learned from previous EOSC projects, addressing existing shortcomings and enhancing the foundational elements necessary for a more robust, scalable, and effective EOSC infrastructure.
Notable advancements include the consolidated EOSC AAI, led by GÉANT, and strengthened collaboration between the public and private sectors to deliver services under a clear set of guidelines.
The EOSC EU NODE will offer compute, container, storage, and file transfer/synchronization services, with additional offerings expected in the future. This represents a significant step forward in realizing the EOSC vision.

Supporting the EU’s Policy of Open Science, the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) aims to give the EU a global lead in research data management and ensure that scientists in Europe enjoy the full benefits of data-driven science. To foster the development of EOSC, the European Commission has deployed into production the EOSC EU Node in the form of managed services provided by third-party contractors.
