Today LITNET marks 35 years as the national research and education network (NREN) of Lithuania. NORDUnet congratulates our colleagues at LITNET on the anniversary.
LITNET has been a valued partner of NORDUnet and the Nordic NRENs from the start. Our collaboration began with a shared task: providing internet connectivity for research and education in our countries. Since then it has grown into a long-term commitment to high-capacity, secure and resilient network infrastructure across the Baltic Sea region.
Over the years LITNET has been a dedicated partner in bilateral work, in initiatives under the Nordic Council of Minister and the Council of the Baltic Sea States, and in pan-European efforts supported by the European Union, including the GÉANT network.
We share an understanding of the important role NRENs play, both in supporting research and education and in the wider development of digital infrastructure. For smaller countries in particular, regional and European collaboration makes us stronger together.
Here’s to many more years of Baltic Sea collaboration, connecting our research and education communities.
Ieva Muraškienė, Strategy and Policy Officer at NORDUnet, joins the celebration at Vilnius University today.
