Danish NREN DeIC Selects New DWDM Platform

Deic, the Danish NREN, has selcted Ericsson and ECI Telecom as providers for a new, national optical network footprint for research and education. The new DWDM optical network platform, based on the ECI Apollo 9600 series, allow both 100Gbps coherent and 10Gbps optical transmission, with a total of 88 channels on a single fibre.

The new DWDM platform replaces the current Alcatel platform deployed in 2008. Despite 10-fold increase in capacity, the new platfom is substantially more cost effective that the existing platform, allowing DeIC a decreased TCO and cheaper, future network expansion.

Deployment will start in the 2nd half of 2016, and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2017.
