NORDUnet’s Ieva Muraškienė to chair Pan-Arctic Cable System collaboration

NORDUnet’s Ieva Muraškienė has been elected chair of the Pan-Arctic Cable System (PACS) collaboration for the coming year. PACS brings together a group of European partners working to advance the strategic value of new Arctic connectivity and strengthen the resilience of global digital infrastructure.

The PACS collaboration is based on a Memorandum of Understanding between Cinia Oy, NORDUnet A/S, Tusass A/S, the Dutch Subsea Cable Coalition, GlobalConnect AB, and Tampnet A/S. Together, the partners are working to advance the vision of a Pan-Arctic Cable System that would create new, secure routes for global connectivity.

Realising PACS would substantially strengthen the resilience of the global internet while enhancing digital connectivity between Europe, North America and Asia. By developing alternative routes across the Arctic, the initiative contributes to reducing reliance on existing infrastructure corridors and strengthening the robustness of the global network.

For NORDUnet, PACS is an important step toward realising the long-term Polar Connect strategic goal of establishing new subsea cable routes to Asia via the Arctic. The initiative also aligns closely with broader European efforts to strengthen digital sovereignty and secure access to critical infrastructure.

Taking on the PACS chair role reflects NORDUnet’s continued engagement in advancing international collaboration around future connectivity infrastructure. Working closely with European partners, including through initiatives linked to the EU’s Global Gateway programme, NORDUnet looks forward to advancing Arctic connectivity together with the PACS partners in the year ahead.
