NORDUnet visits Indiana University and Juniper to explore NOC collaboration

The Nordic NRENs and NORDUnet have for many years collaborated on the development of network monitoring, measurement, and other tools used by Network Operations Centres (NOCs). Building on this foundation, NORDUnet and the Nordic NRENs are currently investigating opportunities for closer collaboration between NREN NOCs across the region.

In support of this Jørgen Qvist, COO at NORDUnet, and Erik Kikkenborg, Chief Collaboration Officer, have visited Indiana University to learn from the Global NOC, which has long served as a focal point for NOC collaboration and service delivery across North America, including for Internet2 and other global research and education network initiatives. The visit offered valuable insight into the opportunities, benefits of scaling, and challenges of inter-organisational NOC collaboration. NORDUnet warmly thanks Edward Moynihan and the Global NOC team for their hospitality and for sharing their experience and perspectives.

While in the US, the NORDUnet team also met with representatives from Juniper Networks to discuss the evolving requirements of research and education networks in the years ahead, supporting NORDUnet’s ongoing work with partners to strengthen the operational foundations of Nordic and global R&E networking.
