To stay updated on the latest innovations and products essential to build and operation networks that meet the next-generation demands of research and education NORDUnet has organizeda joint Nordic trip to the 2025 OFC Conference and Exhibition, bringing together participants from NORDUnet, Sunet, Funet, and Sikt. The trip reflects a joint approach to learning from the global optical networking community and engaging with the latest technological advancements.

Joint Nordic NREN Engineering

“Attending OFC together as a team gives us a better chance to have the ear of key vendors,” says Rasmus Lund, optical networking specialist at NORDUnet. “Together we represent a large and highly advanced network, and that adds weight to our conversations and insights.”

The joint visit is part of the collaborative approach to network engineering of the Nordic research and education networkings. “Visiting a key event like this together make our community stronger and improve our collaboration,” Rasmus adds. “The opportunity to reflect on new technologies and discuss how they might apply to our own network designs together greatly increases the value of the conference for everyone involved.”

Vendor Meetings

This year, the Nordic group will focus on meetings, demos, and trials with leading vendors including Adtran, Nokia, Novoptel, Infinera, and Ciena. With a full schedule planned throughout the week, the group aims to dive deep into the latest solutions, evaluate potential collaborations, and bring home knowledge that can support ongoing innovation across the Nordic networks.
